About The Project
Beta Apartments is a 14-unit Student Housing building located in the heart of University Park and adjacent to USC Village. The former Beta Theta Pi Fraternity building was reimagined as a 2-story structure with apartments arranged around a central courtyard with a row of townhome style units with private rooftop patios at the back of the building to take advantage of the surrounding views.
The entry to the building is framed by two wood patterned cladded volumes sitting on a stucco base and highlighted by a vertical element. This perforated metal element acts a sunlight sieve casting shadows on the surfaces beyond during the day and as a light box glowing at night to inform the building approach and accentuate the access point. The textured cladding recedes at points into the stucco surface and reemerges at others to alternate presence between the two materials. The perforated metal reappears at moments at the cantilever balconies for a coherent materiality throughout the building.
This project is currently in design and permitting phase and construction is scheduled to start in early 2022.
